The Pianist

There was a movie about him.
He was real once.
Vital and sad eyed,
he’d play his set twice
waiting for a crowd.
Praying on a payday.

Toward the end
we see that
he wore the face of
a man who didn’t
want to be wearing
his own face,
of an inmate
watching the warden’s
daughters swim.

Through voiceover
we learn
he only hated himself
half the time.
